British singer-songwriter RAYE has won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second studio album, This Music May Contain Hope, marking another major achievement in her career.

The award was announced on October 22 during a ceremony at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena in England. The judging panel recognized the album for its musical ambition, creative range, and distinctive approach to storytelling.

The project blends jazz, soul, R&B, and orchestral arrangements, exploring themes of personal challenges, relationships, and optimism.

RAYE faced competition from several established and emerging artists, including Paul McCartney, Olivia Dean, Florence + The Machine, JADE, Dave, and Suede.

The singer received a £25,000 prize and performed I Hate The Way I Look Today during the ceremony, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

The victory follows her previous Mercury Prize nomination in 2023 for her debut album, My 21st Century Blues.

The recognition adds another milestone to RAYE’s career as she continues to develop her sound across multiple musical genres.
